You may be reluctant to get back to your favorite spots around town, even if the lock-down has lifted in your area. With masks being mandatory in a lot of places, and social distancing still strongly encouraged, as there is yet to be a vaccine; one good thing is that it’s now going on during Summer. That means trips to the lake or beach, or time by the pool with your family and close friends. Disclosure: This article includes paid promotion. Whether the occasion calls for a swimsuit, shorts, or a sundress; for us ladies, that entails a lot of extra grooming. For me, feeling confident during summer is less about my size or whatever I’m wearing, and it’s more about the appearance of my skin and my perpetually painted toe nails.
Step 1 - The first step, I assume you already know if you’re a regular follower of the blog, is to exfoliate in order to remove the top layer of dead skin. While I prefer gentle fruit-acid exfoliators on my face, I’m all about a great salt or sugar scrub for my body. Regular exfoliation increases cell turnover and instantly reveals softer glowing skin, it makes for a much closer shave, and the right formula can also address additional Summer skincare concerns like acne and folliculitis.
The tea tree oil in this Apothekerry Tea Tree Peppermint Scrub, for example, is a natural antibacterial which can help prevent and treat acne on the body. The addition of peppermint oil provides an invigorating and cooling sensation, as calendula and aloe help soothe irritated skin. Made with nourishing shea butter, mango butter, and several plant-based oils; this salt scrub has such a soft feel to it; and it won’t leave your skin stripped or dry. It gives me plenty of time after an evening shower to climb into bed, figure out what to watch, and grab my favorite body oil or cream for my legs.
Step 2 - That brings us to step number two in how to get Summer-ready skin. Some nights I prefer a thick luxurious cream or a relaxing aromatherapy body oil, but if you prefer something lighter; this Oatmeal Aloe Lotion is one of my top picks out of every body lotion I’ve tested...ever. It is shockingly moisturizing compared to how fast-absorbing and non-greasy it is. My son who has severe eczema especially likes this one, and I love it in their Limited Edition Lavender Oatmeal Aloe Lotion. It’s limited edition, because unlike lotions that simply use essential oils, the owner and creator at Apothekerry uses lavender hydrosol made with real lavender flowers harvested from his garden.
Step 3 - While it’s perfect for moisturizing after an exfoliating scrub, it’s best to use something much heavier on your feet, elbows, hands - basically anywhere with thicker and typically dry skin. The Apothekerry Foot Fixer is such a thick, rich balm that really does the trick! For truly Summer-ready skin, I prefer a thick balm like this to condition those rough areas, to help heal any cracked skin, and to seal in moisture. I like to layer this on my dry areas over the lotion. Like the Tea Tree Scrub, the Apothekerry Foot Fixer contains peppermint oil, which helps soften the skin with consistent use. The peppermint along with eucalyptus in this balm also provides instant relief for aching feet. It's perfect for a foot massage at the end of the day!
Whether you want to feel more confident in your own skin for Summer, or if you simply need some relaxing self-care time; these goodies from Apothekerry are not only effective but cruelty-free (as is everything we feature at Krisztina Clifton Beauty), and they're made with healthier natural ingredients. I encourage you this Summer to draw confidence not from trying to look perfect in a swimsuit but from the health of your skin and the time and care you invest in yourself.
