I've been studying the benefits of pumpkin for your skin and was determined to experiment with an all-natural DIY pumpkin mask! It turns out that the results are so effective, there is nothing to envy from a bottled commercial pumpkin mask. Nature is powerful!
This homemade detoxifying and anti-aging pumpkin mask minimizes the appearance of pores, removes blackheads, and gently exfoliates the skin. It leaves a clear but hydrated complexion behind and your skin looking super awake - bright and tight (thank you coffee!).
Let's break down the ingredients before we get to the recipe, and take a quick look at all of the amazing benefits for your skin.
The Skincare Benefits of Pumpkin
There are so many skincare benefits of pumpkin, including antioxidant-rich Vitamins A, C and E; and it contains AHA acids that increase cell turnover. In other words, it has anti-aging and brightening properties.
The Skincare Benefits of Coffee
The ground coffee helps to exfoliate, brighten and de-puff the skin! It has anti-inflammatory properties and helps our skin to look more vibrant, tight, and awake.
The Skincare Benefits of Natural Yogurt
Yogurt is an all-around multi-tasker when it comes to DIY beauty. The benefits of natural yogurt in a face mask are that it helps to calm down the skin, hydrates, and has antibacterial properties; which makes it a great anti-blemish treatment. The high amount of lactic acid in yogurt can help to remove dead skin cells and to lighten dark spots for a more smooth and even skin tone.
The Skincare Benefits of Raw Honey
There are several benefits to the skin from raw honey. It speeds up your skin cells’ healing process and reduces inflammation. It is recommended to use raw honey on the skin to ensure the honey you use still contains its healthy bacteria to be effective.
The Skincare Benefits of Frankincense Essential Oil
Essential oils are amazing powerful products from nature. As they are highly concentrated, they should be used with moderation and always diluted. You therefore might want to do patch test before applying it to your face. The anti-aging benefits of Frankincense oil make it effective at reducing wrinkles, scars, and dark spots.
My Recipe for a DIY Detox and Anti-Aging Pumpkin Mask
1 tbsp Pumpkin puree (I like to make my pumpkin puree from scratch) but if you're in a hurry you can buy ready pumpkin puree in the supermarket however please make sure it is completely natural)
1 tsp grounded coffee
1 tsp raw honey or Manuka honey
1 tbsp natural yogurt
1 drop Frankincense Pure Essential Oil or the one of your choice (skip this step if you have sensitive skin)
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl, apply to face and neck, and leave for 10 minutes.
Remove gently with a warm muslin cloth.
Finish with cold water to tighten your skin!
