A Quick Meditation Ritual for Anxiety Relief

Whether you practice prayer, meditation, or magic; I think we can all agree on one thing - life can be stressful. The more I open up about anxiety with my readers, the more they open up about their anxieties in return, and it has me wondering does anyone not have anxiety these days?

I have a little trick I've been doing during my meditation times lately, and it has worked wonders on my stress level and has helped me to get a better night's sleep. I start with aromatherapy, whether it be a soothing pillow mist or a convenient essential oil roller.

My recent favorite is the Apothecary Company Unicorn Magic Shielding Elixir. I simply apply some to my temples and underneath my nose. Then as I do my relaxation breathing, I repeat over and over to myself "My mind is at ease, my body is relaxed," or if I'm feeling down emotionally, I'll switch it up a little with "My mind is at ease, my heart is full of peace."

I'm a firm believer in the physiological effects of meditation and/or prayer. Is the combination of this essential oil roller and this positive affirmation really going to create some magical invisible barrier between you and the rest of the world? I can't really promise you guys that. But the mind can have a powerful effect on the body, and by simply repeating "My mind is at ease, my body is relaxed," it signals the body that it doesn't need to react to stress. It's basically a way for your mind to tell your body that everything is okay, even in the midst of stressful events.

This purse-size aromatherapy roller by Apothecary Company makes it so easy to practice this meditation on-the-go. By taking a positive affirmation and adding on this roller and perhaps even a crystal to hold, you have yourself a ritual. By creating a relaxation ritual, you make yourself slow down for a minute to focus and really let go of any negativity that is adding to your stress level, whether that be your own thoughts or a negative coworker or some stressful event.

All too often we allow our emotions to control our thoughts, but when you learn to treat it the opposite direction, you really can learn to control your emotions through a healthy inner dialogue. For example, have you ever tried to tell yourself to calm down in a stressful situation? I don't know about you, but that usually never works for me. In fact it usually makes me more and more anxious. When I flipped the script from "Calm down!" to "I am calm," I was amazed at the results.

Combined with the simple act of deep breathing and some relaxing aromatherapy, a positive meditation can even help lower your blood pressure and decrease your body's stress response. Physical tension and emotional anxiety can be a vicious cycle. Take it from someone who has anxiety disorder, PTSD, and chronic pain. This simple tool in your mental health toolbox, as I like to call it, can make you feel more in control of your emotions and your body. In turn, feeling more in control can also decrease your anxiety, so it's a positive cycle that really builds on itself.

With essential oils like lavender, bergamot, and ylang ylang; this Unicorn Magic Shielding Elixir also has a positive, calming effect on the mind and body. In fact these scents are some of the best essential oils for treating anxiety. We all know that lavender is such a calming and soothing scent. In addition to the lavender in Unicorn Magic, the floral-scented ylang ylang essential oil can quickly bring a sense of calm, which makes it great for alleviating anxiety in the moment and on-the-go.

I really appreciate that this calming blend also contains bergamot for an energizing mood boost. If you struggle with anxiety and/or PTSD, you know that anxiety attacks can often be followed with feelings of sadness and feeling physically drained. The frustration and shame that can especially come with PTSD, and simply having to re-experience something that causes a lot of stress, can be quite a downer. A bright citrus scent is a great way to boost your mood and decrease that down time preceding a panic attack.

I hope these simple tips help you with natural anxiety relief. We all experience stress of one kind or another, and sometimes natural remedies aren't enough, but my motto when it comes to health is that every little bit can add up, and if something works for you, keep doing it!
