Collagen has been one of the most important supplements in my beauty routine this year, and it's not just another fad. It plays a vital roll in several different functions within the body; and as it relates to beauty, the biggest benefit of collagen is that it provides structural support for the skin. I've tried several different brands of collagen, and my favorite so far is the Cosaki Club All-In-One Powder Supplement, made by founder Jenny Peng, because of its flavor and so many beneficial ingredients in addition to the collagen.
First let's dive a little deeper into why a collagen supplement is so important to take as we age. When it comes to beauty, it has a lot to do with why skin wrinkles. Several different factors come into play here, like sun damage and genetics. Though one of the main reasons why our skin wrinkles as we age is the natural breakdown of collagen, which causes the skin to become more thin and fragile over time.
Taking into consideration the role of collagen in skin care, it's even more alarming to find out just how much of it we lose with age, and how early on we begin to lose it.
After the age of 20, for example, we produce one percent less collagen on average per year. This unfortunately means that at the age of 30, we produce about 10% less collagen; and at the age of 40, we produce about 20% less collagen; and so on. Topical products containing collagen have become very trendy in anti-aging skin care, but is that as effective as getting more collagen in your diet? The answer is unfortunately no. Applying collagen topically has never been known to increase collagen growth, and the collagen molecules are too large to penetrate the top layer of skin.
Given that information, common sense tells us that collagen supplements are the way to go for boosting collagen and decreasing the appearance of wrinkles. There are also some studies to back that up. A study in the journal Skin Pharmacology and Physiology for example, looked at the effects of collagen supplements on women's skin. In this study, the women took either a collagen supplement or a placebo for 8 weeks. After the eight-week period, the women who took the collagen supplement had higher elasticity and moisture levels!
After three weeks of using the Cosaki Club All-In-One Powder Supplement, which contains nearly 3000mg per serving of marine collagen peptides, my skin has noticeably improved in elasticity and hydration without having changed my regular skincare routine.
With added ingredients like beta-carotene to defend against sun damage, Vitamin C to aid in collagen synthesis and provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and hyaluronic acid to further increase skin hydration; the Cosaki Club supplement powders are an effective way to get more healthy skin from the inside out.
Made with other beneficial ingredients like biotin and keratin, acai berry and resveratrol; I've personally noticed even more benefits, from stronger hair and nails to increased energy and decreased joint pain. It truly is an all-in-one beauty supplement. I really appreciate that it's also all-natural, dairy-free, and ethically-sourced.
The Cosaki Club All-In-One Powder Supplement comes in two different options - The Beauty Multiple which is unflavored, and The Matcha Multiple which contains ceremonial grade matcha powder for a greater antioxidant and energy boost. Both kinds have a natural sweetness from stevia. though my personal favorite is The Matcha Multiple, both for the flavor and the added health benefits of matcha.
On the other hand, if you aren't a fan of matcha, the unflavored Beauty Multiple is perfect to stir into your favorite tea or juice or to blend into your morning smoothie. I love that it enhances both the nutritional value as well as the flavor of any drink, with its naturally sweet flavor.
