Summer Hair Care: How to Keep Your Hair Sleek and Soft All Season

Updated: May 31, 2019

It's just as important to update your hair care as it is to update your skin care and makeup with the change in weather. The heat, humidity, and sunny weather that comes with the Summer season can wreak havoc on your hair. For me it's a time when my hair gets super frizzy and dry. It's so important for me to use products that can offer added moisture and protection to keep my hair soft and manageable. Whether you have straight and fine hair or thick and wavy like mine, you can keep your tresses looking sleek and healthy all Summer long with these simple tips.

Use A Leave-In Conditioner - Whether you plan to be in the pool, at the beach, or simply out in the sun; a leave-in conditioner can add both extra hydration and protection to keep frizz and dryness at bay. The Kavella Moisture Mist not only adds a boost of hydration, it helps to strengthen and protect the hair from breakage, making it the perfect way to refresh and de-tangle your hair after a swim.

Deep Condition - Whenever you struggle with dry hair, incorporating a deep conditioner once a week can give your hair the added moisture it needs. A deep conditioning treatment like this Recovery Mask for Dry, Damaged Hair can moisturize and repair the damaged hair cuticles that contribute to breakage and frizz. Made with rich organic oils like sunflower, grapeseed, and safflower; it contains a high amount of linoleic acid to moisturize and smooth the hair. These oils also help to maintain a healthy and balanced scalp.

The Vitamin B5 in this Recovery Mask strengthens the hair shaft, while the addition of hydrolyzed boabab protein incorporates amino acids Cysteine, Methionine, and Phenylalanine. Combined, these amino acids provide exceptional damage recovery, nourishment and conditioning.

Shampoo and Condition with Natural Ingredients - Ingredients like sulfates, pthalates, parabens, and synthetic fragrances can cause dryness and make your conditioner counter-productive. Stick with a more natural shampoo and conditioner that is free of synthetic and toxic ingredients, and go with one that moisturizes naturally, like this Moisturizing Shampoo made with organic aloe.

Go Longer Between Washes - Even when using a gentle shampoo, washing too frequently can cause dryness. The easiest way to revive your hair between washes is with a great dry shampoo. I love that Kavella Hair Care has a dry shampoo for blonde hair as well as a dry shampoo for brunette hair.

Embrace the Waves - While we all want to tame the frizz and add more shine,

it can be much easier on your hair during the more humid months to work with your natural texture instead of trying to fight it.

The Kavella Thermal Primer Spray is a weightless heat protectant spray that primes hair for hot styling but can also be used on wet or dry hair without the use of heated styling tools. Made with natural oils, it helps to moisturize, while ProVitamin B works to seal in the moisture and blocks out frizz. Pair it with this Flexible Hold Styling Cream, which also protects against frizz and can help to smooth and weigh down unruly curls.

If you'd like to create volume and beachy waves but lack the texture, start with a great texturizing salt spray then work in some lightweight hold with this Volumizing Styling Mousse.

As someone who struggles with naturally frizzy and thick hair, I've learned that controlling my hair when heat and humidity strike is so much easier with the write products. You can shop my top picks below!
