The Beauty Edit ~ May Beauty Faves

Is it just me, or is May a bit of a strange time when it comes to fashion and beauty? It's a time when I want to be celebrating Spring, yet some days are so cold that it still feels like winter, while other days are so hot, I feel as though Summer is already here. So while I tend to have a bit of a theme with the beauty edit each month, during May it was a bit of a mix. From Mother's Day gift ideas to products to relieve anxiety (May was mental health awareness month) to skincare for the approaching sandal season, my beauty faves this month were products I think anyone could use, and most definitely would love.

Of course I never go a month without trying out new skincare. I'm always on the hunt for the perfect face cream, the perfect serum, etc. During May I tried a moisturizer and serum by Retinol Magic. I'm happy (and not at all surprised) to report that my fine lines and deep wrinkles have diminished over the last few weeks. Retinol just works, plain and simple. It works by encouraging cell turnover and stimulating collagen growth to increase firmness and reduce fine lines and even deep wrinkles. It's always my go-to ingredient for treating deep wrinkles. Other benefits of retinol for the skin include more clear and more even-toned skin.

I loved that the Retinol Magic products came in the form of a lightweight serum and a light yet ultra-hydrating cream. While retinol on its own can be drying, and even irritating to sensitive skin, the Retinol Magic Serum as well as the Retinol Magic Moisturizer with 2.5% active retinol both contain hydrating and soothing ingredients like aloe, Vitamin E, jojoba oil, and sunflower oil. And while the wrinkle-fighting properties of retinol can take a week or longer to kick in,

the hyaluronic acid in both of these products help to immediately moisturize and plump for instantly younger looking skin.

The Retinol Magic Serum is nourishing with natural ingredients like Organic Green Tea, Propolis Extract, Organic Gotu Kola, Horsetail Extract, Wild Geranium, and Organic Dandelion Extract. It has a lightweight and completely non-greasy texture that is perfect for oily skin or if you like to layer a serum underneath other products. The cream is thicker and more oily in texture, with the addition of shea butter. Though shea butter is non pore-clogging, so it's suitable for all skin types. Personally I prefer the serum, because I can layer it with multiple skincare products, but if you're looking to simplify your skincare routine, the Retinol Magic Moisturizer is just the thing! I found myself reaching for it often, especially whenever I just wanted to wash my face and quickly apply one product before bedtime. It would make for the perfect travel facial care item as well. For travel season, you can definitely get away with using just a cleanser and this all-in-one face cream!

One of my Mother's Day gift picks was a beautiful set of hand-crafted body bars. Though the soaps at Awaken Terra are the perfect way to spoil yourself anytime. Each bar is made with ultra-moisturizing ingredients like olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil, avocado oil, and shea butter. I always look for those natural oils in body care products, and shea butter is my number one favorite ingredient for moisturizing skin. There are several skincare benefits of shea butter, as it contains Vitamin A and E; providing anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and skin-conditioning properties. With the addition of flowers, botanicals, and essential oils; the soaps at Awaken Terra have additional therapeutic benefits, and they each have a light fresh scent.

My son who has eczema used the Awaken Terra Lavender & Oats Body Bar and found it to be incredibly moisturizing and soothing. Whether you struggle with sensitive and/or dry skin, or need to give your skin some tlc during the summer months, you'll find these body bars very soothing and hydrating. My favorite was the Geranium-Rose & Hibiscus Body Bar. It's made with geranium essential oil, which is such a great essential oil for skincare, and is beautifully topped off with the lovely dried hibiscus and pink rose petals. While they have so many wonderful soaps at Awaken Terra, I think this one is the most beautiful and luxurious.

Equally luxurious and just the thing to get your feet ready for sandal weather is this hand-crafted Solid Lotion Bar by Cottonwood Soap Company. Made with shea butter and cocoa butter, it's incredibly moisturizing. The addition of beeswax helps to seal in the moisture, while babassu oil offers rich fatty acids and intense moisture that melts into the skin and absorbs quickly.

I love that it's in a convenient little tin. It's another great skincare product for summer travels or whenever you're on the go. It comes in a variety of scents, though for the warmer months, the Tahitian Paradise fragrance is the obvious choice. It's the one I got to try, and it smells incredible!! It has a refreshing and feminine scent to it. Unlike most tropical-scented products that smell strongly of coconut, this lotion bar has notes of Tahitian gardenia, rose, and orchid.

It's the perfect way to get smooth skin and a sultry summer fragrance for a night out, all in one convenient little product.

As May was mental health awareness month, I wanted to continue with the anxiety-relief tips I began sharing the previous month. When I saw all of the products at Wyndmere Naturals that are specifically designed for anxiety relief, they became the obvious choice. I was even more impressed after speaking with the owner and finding out that they actually work with health care centers to help people suffering with anxiety disorder and PTSD. I've just recently opened up more on social media that I personally struggle with both of those conditions, and found that a lot of my followers also struggle with anxiety. That solidified my desire to continue to share my own struggles and treatments so that I can share more and more tips on how to deal with anxiety naturally.

I've found aromatherapy to be a vital part of my holistic approach to anxiety relief. At Wyndmere they have a variety of products made with relaxing essential oils like lavender, though they also carry their own blend called Anxiety Release. It's a soothing and relaxing mix that helps promote a sense of inner peace and harmony while easing nervousness, irritability, and apprehension.

The Wyndmere Anxiety Release essential oil blend is available in so many different products, from bath and body to aromatherapy jewelry and even on-the-go aromatherapy inhalers. I love that the anxiety relief with these products doesn't have to feel like treatment but more like luxurious self care. For example their votive candle paired with the anxiety release soap and bath salts (in a warm, relaxing bath of course) can be followed with a nice massage using their Anxiety Release lotion. The combination of the relaxing lavender and chamomile scents combined with fresh citrus and floral geranium provide such a pleasant and uplifting take on traditional lavender. You can see more of my favorite aromatherapy products from Wyndmere here >, and be sure to check out their entire Anxiety Release Collection.
